Learn how to search our catalogue. Some simple instructions can also be found at the top of the page located under the i button .

Order records for use in the SRO's Search Room by registering as a user online.
Once you have registered, remember to use your email and password for subsequent logins.

Submit a digitisation request through the online catalogue by selecting 'request a digital copy for a fee' in the drop down menu. When requesting a digital copy you will be advised if the archive is suitable for digitisation and provided with information about the method of payment. Archives that are restricted, too fragile, or too difficult to handle without potentially incurring damage, will not be digitised.

Some archives are available on microfilm and the majority of these can be viewed in the Search Room during our opening hours.

Warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that SRO's online catalogue includes the names of deceased persons. The SRO also acknowledges that accessing some of this material can be confronting.

Digital images that appear in the catalogue are provided for research purposes and any further copying should not be carried out without reference to the Australian Copyright Act 1968 and the SRO. An image at full scale will appear if you double click on the thumbnail. Digital object sizes are identified at the bottom of the description page and are set in mebibytes (MiB). Large objects are compressed for viewing on the website, which may affect viewing, but is sufficient for most purposes including printing and publishing. Please contact us for a copy of the larger file, if required.
