State Archives that have been requested via the SRO catalogue are made available in the Archives Reading Room on the 3rd Floor of the State Library.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to public health measures in place due to Covid 19 restrictions, the 2 square metre rule will apply to clients entering the State Library Building and you must must sign in using the Safe WA app or the paper form upon entry. From 8 May 2021 masks are no longer necessary in the State Library Building.

There are limits on archives requests per day. If you're beginning your research or just need to talk about it you are welcome to make an appointment with an Archivist.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are warned that SRO's online catalogue includes the names of deceased persons. The SRO also acknowledges that accessing some of this material can be confronting.

Register online to make a digitisation request. You can also submit a digitisation request through our website. When requesting a digital copy, we will subsequently advise you if the archive is suitable for digitisation and provide you with information about payment. Archives that are restricted access or difficult to handle without potentially incurring damage are not generally digitised.

Digital images that appear in the catalogue are provided for research purposes and any further copying should not be carried out without reference to the Australian Copyright Act 1968 and the SRO.
