The Department of Native Welfare operated a number of district offices throughout Western Australia to carry out the Department's functions at a regional level.

Scope and content

Administration files of the South West District Office (also known as the Southern District office of the Department of Native Welfare. The files are concerned with education, health, housing, employment, missions and reserves. Gnowangerup, Narrogin, Collie, Katanning, Kojonup, Broomehill, Dumbleyung, Tambellup and Borden are included in this district.

A new filing system was introduced throughout the Department of Native Welfare's regional offices in 1962. These new files did however also incorporate earlier correspondence. Administration files were allocated file numbers according to the following system:
