Administrative history

Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Each volume groups the prisoners by the first letter of the surname, with entries added chronologically for each section. The date range reflects the dates of prisoner admission for each volume.

These volumes record admissions for male prisoners only. The entries also note whether the prisoner is Aboriginal, soldier, etc.
