History
In 2001, the Education Department of Western Australia was renamed the Department of Education due to Machinery of Government Changes.
The Department of Education was focussed on ensuring all government school students developed the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their individual potential and contribute to society.
In 2002, there were 1123 schools in the State, enrolling 365,571 students. Of these, 255,461 students were enrolled in 775 government schools.
On 3 February 2003, the Department of Education and the Department of Training were merged to form the Department of Education and Training.
