Under the McGowan Government, a series of Machinery of Government changes were made to the public sector creating a number of new amalgamated departments.
The Department of State Development, the Western Australian Tourism Commission and the industry promotion and innovation functions of the Department of Commerce were merged on 1 July 2017 to form the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.
This Department's focus is on international trade, major industrial developments, tourism and the new economy. The Department assumed responsibility for the Office of Science, International Education and Innovation.
All of the State’s overseas offices and inmarket promotion were consolidated and co-ordinated under the leadership of this Department.
