History

A Department of Labour was formed in 1904 to provide oversight of The Friendlies Societies Office, the Government Labour Bureau, Industrial Arbitration and Factories. In 1905 the Department was renamed the Commerce and Labour Department. The Department was abolished c. 1906 although the sub-departments continued to operate.
