In the 1970s Main Roads commenced a filing system with a numerical prefix designating files documenting different functions, eg 1 - general administration; 10 - buildings & land owned by MRD; 17 - quarries; 25 - committees & conference files; 30 - traffic - policy, acts, etc; 41 - land & property files - Metro; 42 - land & property files - country; 50 - bridges; 51 - specific bridges; 60 - local authorities; 85 - roads general including landscaping, environmental policy and graffiti matters.
