The Geraldton Mid-West Development Authority was established 1 January 1988 under the auspices of the Department of Regional Development and the North West. It became a Statutory Authority in its own right on 1 July 1988. The Geraldton Mid-West Development Authority Act (1988) which established the Authority was proclaimed on 22 July 1988.
The Authority's functions were to plan, coordinate, promote and facilitate the economic and social development of the Geraldton Mid-West region.
The Geraldton Mid-West Development Authority Act 1988 was repealed with the introduction of the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993. The Geraldton Mid-West Development Authority was succeeded by the Mid West Development Commission on 8 April 1994.
