Administrative history
Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Daily medical journal recording number of sick in the Infirmary, number of admissions and discharges, number of casual sick prescribed for in the Prison, number of fresh cases among the casual sick, numbers of prisoners under punishment visited, number of prisoners in the Prison. They show the names and registration numbers of seriously ill prisoners in the Infirmary and the illness, names and registration numbers of prisoners under treatment for mental disorders, notices of occurrences of importance calling for medical interference. There are also monthly returns showing number of infirmary sick and of those treated in the wards of the Establishment, Freshwater Bay Invalid Depot and North Fremantle Invalid Depot.
