History

Mining registrars and wardens were appointed under the Mineral Lands Act, 1892 and the Goldfields Act, 1895. In 1904, the Mining Act changed all wardens and registrars appointed under the earlier Acts to wardens. Any person appointed as a magistrate could be appointed as a Warden, under had responsibility for a particular mining district and for managing and registering applications for mineral leases, gold dealers licences and the like. They were also responsible for the Warden's Court in each district. The Greenbushes Mining Warden was responsible for claims in Greenbushes and related areas, including Bridgetown, Blackwood and Donnybrook.
