History

The Western Australian National Trust was formed in 1959 along the lines of the English National Trust and was later affiliated with other Australian National Trust agencies. Legislation to support the aims of the Trust was written in 1962 and eventually passed through Parliament in 1964. The National Trust was formed to protect and preserve both built and natural heritage. It operates five main programmes - advocacy, asset management, membership, education and covenanting.
