Administrative history

Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Daily journal of occurrences in the Special Handling Unit. The Special Handling Unit was for prisoners who for whatever reason needed to be kept isolated from the general prison population. Shows date, time, occurrence and numbers at morning and evening musters. Prisoners named only where reported occurrence concerned them Shows names of officers of duty.

The Special Handling Unit of Fremantle Prison closed on 23.9.1991.
