Administrative history

The State Shipping Service was established following a change in name from the State Steamships Service in 1919. With the passing of the WA Coastal Shipping Commission Act in 1965, a Commission consisting of three persons was established to control intra-state and overseas shipping.

The Coastal Shipping Commission continued to trade as the State Shipping Service until 1979 when the annual report of the Commission refers to the Commission "trading as Stateships" for the first time.

Stateships, the trading name of the WA Coastal Shipping Commission, was established following a change of name from the State Shipping Service in late 1979.
