Scope and content
In the early 1840s, various local regulations for the Temporary Occupation of Crown Lands were put forward in an attempt to prevent squatting. In 1850, new regulations for the leasing of Crown Lands were published. Under these regulations, land to be leased was divided into Class A and Class B (depending on the distance from a town). Following initial dissatisfaction with this method, the regulations were amended to take effect from 1 Jan 1852.
The first two volumes in this series vary in their method of recording applications as the Regulations were still being changed. From 1852 to 1882 the series is continuous. In all volumes, the applications are grouped into districts and there is an index to the districts at the front of the volume.
