Administrative history

On 12 September 1961, William Charles Gillespie was appointed Royal Commissioner to enquire into and report upon the buying, presentation, handling, transport, marketing and shipping of apples grown in Western Australia, insofar as those procedures affect or govern the return to the grower.

The Royal Commission sittings were held between 24 October and 14 December 1961. The Commission sat on twenty four days in all, twenty two at Perth and two at Manjimup. Thirty seven persons gave evidence before the Commission, with one hundred and twenty four exhibits tendered as evidence.
