History

On 13 September 1916, Charles Edward Dempster, Matthew Thomas Padbury and Ranald McDonald were appointed Royal Commissioners to inquire into and report upon the possibilities of successful farming in the Mallee Belt of the State, particularly with reference to the Esperance lands, and to advise whether experimental work should be undertaken.

The report of the Royal Commission was completed on 11 July 1917.
