The School Curriculum and Standards Authority was established on 29 February 2012, following the proclamation of the Curriculum Council Amendment Act 2011. All existing functions previously undertaken by the Curriculum Council were transferred to the Authority.
The School Curriculum and Standards Authority is responsible to the Western Australian Minister for Education. It is administered by a board consisting of seven members appointed for their expertise in education and assessment.
Following the 2017 machinery of government changes, services and support to the Authority are provided by the School Curriculum and Standards Division staff of the Department of Education.
