History

The South West Development Commission was established on 8 April 1994, following the proclamation of the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993. The Commission replaced the former South West Development Authority, and became one of nine development commissions established through this Act servicing regional areas of Western Australia.

The South West Development Commission partners with communities, government, business and industry to identify and support projects that benefit the region.

As part of a series of Machinery of Government changes effective from 1 July 2017, staff of the South West Development Commission were transferred to the new Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The Commission remains a Statutory Authority under this new arrangement.
