History

The Department of Environment Regulation was designated on 1 July 2013 with two main service areas: Environmental Regulation, performing environmental regulation functions of approvals, compliance and enforcement; and Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change, advising on and implementing the State Government’s environmental policies and programs.

Under the McGowan Government, a series of Machinery of Government changes were made to the public sector creating a number of new amalgamated departments.

The Department of Environmental Regulation, the Department of Water, and the Office of the Environmental Protection Authority were amalgamated to form the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation on 1 July 2017.
