The Western Australian Teacher Education Authority (WATEA) was established under the Teacher Education Act 1972 to consist of constituent colleges and a Council.
The Act made provision for the colleges - Churchlands Teachers College, Claremont Teachers College, Graylands Teachers College, Mount Lawley Teachers College and the Western Australian Secondary Teachers College - to be governed by Boards under the auspices of WATEA. This provision came into place on 26 November 1973.
The Authority was abolished by the Colleges Act 1978 which established the colleges as autonomous, self-governing bodies.
