History
The Children's Court was originally set up under State Children Act 1907 and to operate within the City of Perth. Subsequent amendment allowed the Court to sit in the other designated areas of Fremantle, Midland and Rockingham, and also in country areas such as Bunbury. Cases could be heard by a Police Magistrate or, in his absence, by two Justices of the Peace. Women were appointed from 1915 onwards to provide a female perspective and to look after the interests of girls.
The Children's Court became the Children's Court of Western Australia with the passing of the Act of the same name in 1988.
