History

A police presence was established in Denham River (via Wyndham) around 1889. From 1891 onwards the Police had the specific duty of patrolling the telegraph line and ensuring it was protected from damage. The police station, possibly a camp, was destroyed by storm in December, 1894 and the station closed in April of the following year.
