History
The Machinery of Government Taskforce initiated by the Gallop Government recommended Fisheries WA be renamed the Department of Fisheries from 1 July 2001. The Department of Fisheries was responsible for managing the State's Commercial and Recreational Fisheries, developing and promoting WA's aquaculture industry, and managing and conserving fish and fish habitats.
Under the McGowan government, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Regional Development, the Department of Agriculture and food, as well as the staff of the nine Regional Development Commissions were amalgamated to form the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development on 1 July 2017.
