History

The Enrolled Guard was formed in November 1880 to furnish a Guard for Government House, Perth, the Convict Prison, Fremantle and the Magazine (military store), Fremantle. Soldiers for the Enrolled Guard were drawn from the former Enrolled Pensioner Force.

The Commandant of the Enrolled Guard, Matthew Skinner Smith, was also the Superintendant of Police.

The Home Office's compensatury grant and 4000 pounds per annum ceased in 1887 and the Enrolled Guard was disbanded in March 1887.
