History

In 1885 a casualty ward was established in Fremantle and by 1895 the Fremantle Casualty Ward had been changed into a hospital. Renovations were made to the residence called "The Knowle" which had been built by Captain E.Y.W. Henderson, the Comptroller-General of Convicts, and it became Fremantle Hospital, receiving its first patients in January 1897.
