History

Following the discovery of gold at "Hannan's Find" (in what was to become Kalgoorlie) on 15 June 1893, gold prospecting shifted from Coolgardie to this new townsite. In 1894, the population of Kalgoorlie consisted of between 400 and 500 men. A year later, the population had risen dramatically to 12 000. A courthouse was established in Kalgoorlie at this time.
