History
The (Fremantle) One Parent Centre was established as part of the Parent Education Assistance Project (Agency No. 419) in 1976. In 1981 it came under the direction of the City of Fremantle and in 1988 the Department of Community Services oversaw it. The Centre provided parent education and family support services for lone parents of pre schoolers in the greater Fremantle area (including the Cities of Cockburn, Fremantle, Melville and Towns of East Fremantle, Mosman Park and Kwinana). Activities included programs for parents, assistance with problems, information on community resources, counselling, child care, a toy and book lending library.
The Centre was initially located at 8 Stirling Street, Fremantle and later at 193 Canning Highway, East Fremantle. The Centre closed on 31 October 1991 when government funding ceased.
