History

The Committee was established by the Premier in October 1993 and comprised 12 members chosen to be broadly representative of the WA community. The Chairman was Malcolm McCusker QC. The Committee's main task was to ascertain people's views on the future of the Australian Federation and the implications for WA of an Australian republic.

The committee released two Issues Papers: "The Future of the Federation" and "An Australian Republic" on 6 June 1994. The Committee's conclusions and recommendations were presented to the State Government in Jan 1995,and published as The Report of The Western Australian Constitutional Committee.
