History
The Bureau was established in June 1985 in line with the recommendations of the Report of the Youth Task Force. Its brief was to advise the Minister for Youth on issues affecting young peoiple. It operated as a sub-department within the Department for Community Services until 3 August 1989 when it became an autonomous department within the terms of the Financial Administration and Audit Act (1985). From the 27 September 1990 the Youth Affairs Bureau was abolished and its functions transferred to the Office of the Family.
