Administrative history
Newcastle townsite was surveyed in 1860. This followed the decision to abandon the town of Old Toodyay because of the susceptibility to flooding. A Sergeant of Police and two constables were appointed to Newcastle in 1861. Newcastle was changed to Toodyay on 3 May 1911 and the Police Station changed name accordingly.
