Administrative history
In 1890, land was designated for use as an old mens home (reserve number A1667). In 1900, Hillson Beasley commenced designs for a building. On completion of the building in 1906, the inmates were moved from Mt Eliza Invalid Depot.
In 1943 the name of the Old Men Home was changed to Sunset Home.

Administrative history
In 1966 the name Sunset Home was changed to Sunset Hospital due to representation by Dr Lefroy, geriatrician for WA, to the Health Department. Along with Mt Henry it became a hospital providing restorative treatment to patients in the wards, with residents living in hostels in the grounds.
The Sunset Hospital was scheduled to close in December 1995.
