Administrative history

The W.A. Correspondence School was established to solve the problem of educating children living in remote areas of the State.

The Education Department had initiated correspondence lessons for pupils preparing to enter a teaching career as far back as 1901, although a fully fledged Correspondence School addressing the needs of primary and later high school students was not established until 1918.

The Correspondence School conducted its education of students through lesson sheets which provided subjects of study as well as exercises. Half-yearly and yearly exams were conducted and graded centrally by the School.
