AU WA A1555 - WITTENOOM PRIMARY SCHOOL
(1950-02-06 - 1985-12-18)
Administrative history
The original school at Wittenoom Gorge was at the Mine Settlement in a building owned by the Australian Blue Asbestos company. The teacher arrived to open the school on 28 May 1947 but as some work was still underway, he did not admit pupils until 6 June. At the commencement of the new school year on 6 February 1950 a new school was opened in the new Wittenoom townsite and the old building at the mine closed. Records for the new school show both the names Wittenoom Gorge and Wittenoom were used for some years until the name Wittenoom was in sole use. Records for Wittenoom Gorge (agency 564) school therefore contain Wittenoom records.
