Administrative history
Formerly the Department of Works & Buildings, the Public Works Department expanded greatly from the beginning of the century, becoming responsible for the construction of the Goldfields Water Supply and Fremantle harbour. The Public Works Department changed its name to the Building Management Authority on 1 January 1985.

Scope and content
The slipways within Fremantle Harbour became the responsibility of the Public Works Department (Harbours and Rivers Branch) in 1942. Prior to this date they had been the responsibility of the Fremantle Harbour Trust. The North Mole slipway was dismantled in 1958 leaving only the slipway of the South Mole operational.
These applications detail work carried out on every vessel slipped at North Mole slipway and South Mole slipway for the periods stated.
