Administrative history
Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Series of cards entitled Sentenced Prisoners Record. The cards are in two sequences, one for prisoners who were deported, the other for those who died whether in prison or not. Cards show name, immigration details, personal details (date and place of birth, religion, occupation, marital status, next of kin), and particulars of imprisonment (court, offence, sentences etc), date of deportation or death.
