Administrative history
In 1957, State Saw Mills and State Brick Works were brought under central control and were amalgamated into State Building Supplies. The primary objectives of State Building Supplies, as set out in the organisation's first annual report, were:
1) Provision within the State of goods and services related to the timber and building industries as may be defined as within the scope of the organisation on a reasonable price level and on a scale as will substantially influence the general level of prices in the industry;
2) Leadership in industry in some phases with special attention to proper utiilisation of all forest resources on permit areas held and maximum cooperation with the Forests Department;
3) Acceptance of use of the Trading Concern as an instrument of current Government policy.
State Building Supplies was abolished in 1960 as part of the Government's policy to rationalise its trading concerns.
