Administrative history

In 1954 the Technical Education Branch became known as the Technical Education Division. Its main function was to meet the needs of industry, commerce and the general community by training managers, supervisors, technicians, skilled and semi-skilled tradespeople, professionals and para-professionals and associated support staff. It also provided alternatives to Years 11 and 12 of the secondary school system, embracing, as it did, a variety of basic technician, bridging and preparatory courses for students between 15 and 19 years of age. In addition, it offered a range of extramurual, cultural, recreation and leisure courses to meet the personal development needs of adults.
