The Court of Petty Sessions - Perth has been under the official umbrella of the Perth Magistrates Court since 1991. In May 2005 the Petty Sessions and Local Courts were formally amalgamated.
Established in 1830 to deal with summary offences which did not require a jury, it was sometimes known as the Perth Police Court. In addition to its judicial functions the Court has, in the past, dealt with matters relating to convicts, liquor licences and child maintenance.
