Administrative history

The position of Resident Magistrate (RM), Busselton (Vasse) was carried out by the Resident Magistrate, Augusta (John Molloy) from 1842 until 1849 when a separate Resident Magistrate, Vasse (Busselton) was appointed. Combined with the position of Resident Magistrate was that of the Sub-collector of Customs which remained so until 31 December 1900 when the Commonwealth became responsible for shipping and customs. Both positions were always held simultaneously by the same person.

The position of Resident Magistrate was abolished by 31 December 1910 and the functions of the RM were then undertaken by the Clerk of Courts, Busselton.
