Administrative history
The Western Australian Government Railways [1] was established following the abolition of the Dept of Works & Railways and the creation of the WAGR and the Dept of Works & Buildings. In 1914 the function of tramways was added and the Department's title changed accordingly.

The Western Australian Government Railways Employees Death Benefit Voluntary Fund was formed in 1907 to provide assistance to families following the death of an employee.
The original Fund was divided into two Funds , one offering death benefits or a payment on reaching maturity in accordance with the rules of the Fund. The other Funs was known as the Western Australian Railway Employees Provident Fund. This Fund paid a sick allowance benefit to an employee.
In accordance with the Western Australian Government Railways Act, an employee had to be a member of the State Superannuation Fund or the Western Australian Government Railways Employees Endowment Fund on reaching 21 years of age. Membership to the Provident Fund was voluntary.
