Administrative history

The Council was established on 1 September 1983. It operated initially under the auspices of the Women's Interests Division of the Premiers Department. During 1985 the Council's resources were separated from those of the Division and provided with its own Secretariat. It maintained close contact with the Women's Interests Division and the Women's Information and Referral Exchange.

The Women's Advisory Council advised the Premier on matters of concern to women including child care, equal employment, health, housing, prostitution, education, legal status, and migrant, Aboriginal and disabled women.

Administrative history

The mission of Office of Women's Interests was to ensure that Government policies and programs met the needs of all Western Australian women.

The Office of Women's Interests was abolished on 30 July 1995 and replaced by the Women's Policy Development Office.
