Administrative history

Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Card indes of aliases used by prisoners. The index was compiled by staff of Fremantle Prison Museum. Cards are arranged alphabetically by alias with the name under which prisoner was registered. There is also a small note pad with information. A microfilm copy of Cons 4208 is available.
