The Gingin Road Board was declared and gazetted on 12 January 1893. On 1 July 1961, in line with all Road Boards, the name changed to Shire of Gingin.

On 1 July 1961 all Road Boards became Shire Councils. The Gingin Road Board became the Shire of Gingin.

(Two volumes of Gingin Agricultural Hall committee records were also transferred by the Shire of Gingin, including a cash book 1911-1925, and inward letter book 1914-1922. These are included in the Private Archives collection).
