Administrative history

The Fisheries Department originated in 1893 when 4 officers were appointed to a Fisheries sub-department, headed by a Commissioner of Fisheries under the control of the Department of the Commissioner for Crown Lands. In 1909 the Aborigines and Fisheries Departments were amalgamated into one department.
