Administrative history

A Government Astronomer was first appointed in 1896. Shortly after that the foundation stone for an Observatory was laid. This building was opened at Mt Eliza in 1900. The Observatory remained there until 1966 when a new Observatory was opened at Bickley Brook.

These journals give twice daily (9 am and 3pm) descriptions of Fremantle weather conditions. Barometric pressure, temperature, wind speed/direction, cloud cover, rainfall and general meteorological remarks are recorded.
