Administrative history
The necessity for some form of centralised control of the Swan River was realised for some years prior to the formation of the Swan River Reference Committee in 1943. The Committee co-ordinated the activities of a number of departments and bodies associated with the Swan and reported to the Minister for Works and Water Supply . The Committee also advised on the drafting of the Swan River Conservation Act which was passed in 1958 and which established the Swan River Conservation Board.
