Administrative history
The Nelson Road Board District was first gazetted in 1887. In 1917 the Road Board was renamed the Bridgetown Road Board. Road Board Districts were redefined as Shires following the Governor's Assent to the 1960 amendment to the Local Government Act.

The Shire of Bridgetown was formed following an amendment to the Local Government Act, 1960 which was assented to in 1961. The Shire was amalgamated with the Shire of Greenbushes to form the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes in 1970.
