Administrative history
Following an order of union gazetted on the 26 March 1970, the councils of the Shires of Greenbushes and Bridgetown were dissolved and a new council for the combined Shires was elected on 23 May 1970.

Administrative history
The Greenbushes Road Board District was gazetted and its boundaries defined on 2 February, 1900. A redescription of the boundaries was gazetted in 1918 and 1919. Transfers of land occurred between Greenbushes and Bridgetown Districts in 1919, and between Greenbushes and Balingup in 1923. Following an amendment to the Local Government Act in 1961, all road board districts were renamed shires.

Administrative history
The Greenbushes Shire Council replaced the Greenbushes Road Board in July 1961 following an amendment to the Local Government Act, 1960. The Shire was amalgamated with the Shire of Bridgetown in 1970 to form the Shire of Bridgetown - Greenbushes.
