Mt Mortimer (a.k.a. Mt Dawson) is located on the Ashburton River north west of the Capricorn Range. The Ashburton Goldfield was located nearby. In October 1903 the Police Camp on O'Grady's (a.k.a. Gregory) Creek was moved to "the Gorge Pool".
