History
The Office of the Auditor General was established following a change of name from the Audit Department on 27 June 1986.
The role of the Office of the Auditor General is to provide Parliament with independent and impartial information regarding public sector accountability and performance.
The Auditor General Act 2006 was proclaimed on 1 February 2007. This Act defines the role and work of the Auditor General and of the Office of the Auditor General and replaces the powers that were given under the Financial Administration and Audit Act 1985 (FAAA).
